The Australian Centre for ARFID
Care begins
with understanding.
We assess children and adults who think they may have ARFID. Our approach brings together clinical perspectives to understand each person’s eating experiences.
A multidisciplinary approach
Eating experiences are shaped by more than one factor. Different disciplines contribute to a fuller understanding of the person, their health and their everyday life.
Psychology
Understanding the emotional and psychological factors associated with eating.
Dietetics
Considering food intake, nutritional needs and dietary variety.
Speech pathology
Exploring feeding, swallowing and oral motor factors.
Paediatrics
For children, considering medical history, growth and development.
The person behind the eating experience
We begin by listening. Food preferences, appetite, worries about eating and past experiences all help explain what eating is like for you or your child.
An assessment considers how eating affects daily routines, social situations and wellbeing, alongside relevant medical, nutritional and feeding factors.
Children, parents and carers
For children, paediatric expertise can contribute to understanding growth, development and physical health. Parents and carers bring valuable knowledge of the child’s eating and day-to-day experiences.
Adults and everyday life
Adults can enquire about eating patterns that affect food choice, meals or participation. We can discuss your concerns and explain which assessment pathway may be appropriate.
Working alongside Lively Eaters
For children and young people, The Australian Centre for ARFID works in conjunction with Lively Eaters Feeding Therapy to offer a specialist assessment pathway.
Where ongoing feeding or nutrition therapy is recommended, Lively Eaters can provide individualised therapeutic support.
